Why text.email exists

For years, the “easy” way to send a text from an alerting system was to email your phone through a carrier gateway: number@carrier-domain. That era is over.

The old carrier email-to-text gateways
AT&T 5551234567@txt.att.net
Shut down (June 17, 2025)
Verizon 5551234567@vtext.com
Heavily restricted / often blocked
T-Mobile 5551234567@tmomail.net
Unreliable / filtering issues
These free gateways became spam magnets, so carriers shut them down or locked them down. Your alerts shouldn’t depend on a legacy loophole.
text.email is the modern replacement:
send an email → receive a real SMS alert in seconds.
🚨
Don't miss critical alerts
SMS is harder to miss than email.
🔌
Works with any app
If it can send an email, it can trigger a text.
🧰
No APIs or code
Set up in minutes, not days.
Compliance built-in
STOP/HELP handling + carrier rules.

This service turns emails into SMS messages. It makes it easy to send an email, and then have an SMS sent to your mobile phone.

Because getting your app, device, or software to send emails is easy but getting it to send an SMS is hard. Sending an SMS directly involves registering for a number, complying with regulatory agencies, and figuring out how to call an SMS API.

Because in 2025, the major U.S. mobile providers shut these services down. Text.email is a replacement for AT&T’s txt.att.net, a replacement for T-Mobile’s tmomail.net, and a replacement for Verizon’s vtext.com.

Right now, we can only send SMS messages to U.S. and Canadian numbers. But we’ll be supporting other countries soon.

Sending to your-number@text.email is just for fast, anonymous testing. If you create an account, you’re assigned a subdomain like “zebra”. (You can also edit your subdomain.) So you should then send emails to your-number@zebra.text.email. That way, all of those messages will be tied to your account. Keep your subdomain private. If you send to your-number@text.email, those messages will not be tied to your account and your tests will show on our homepage.

This service is for one-way alerts and notifications only. Replies to the SMS messages are discarded and never seen.

Yes, you can control which elements of the email (subject/body/from) are used in the actual SMS sent. It’s in your account’s settings.

The SMS messages will be sent from a variety of different phone numbers, based on how we decide to route your specific SMS message. Sometimes it will be an 800 number, and sometimes it will be what’s known as a 10DLC (10 digit long code).

No, we only support basic SMS messages.

No, we only support basic SMS messages.

Each SMS we send counts as 1 message. So if one email generates 3 text messages by sending to 3 @your-subdomain.text.email addresses, that counts as 3 messages.
